Money talks.
THE CONCEPT

People pay to call your phone. That's literally it.

Pay Phone is a booking utility for paid, scheduled, time-boxed video calls between a public figure and a fan. The artist sets the hours and the prices. The fan books a slot the way she books a haircut. The video call happens in the app, on a timer, and the money moves the second it ends. There is no unpaid interaction anywhere in the product.

WHY IT WORKS

Every other platform sells attention. This sells the appointment.

Creator platforms monetize something that is already free: you post, you build an audience, then you hope to convert it. The conversion is the hard part and the platform owns it.

Pay Phone skips the funnel. A celebrity's scarcest asset is time, and time is the one asset that cannot be pirated, screenshotted into worthlessness, or buried by an algorithm. Ten minutes at 7:20 PM either happened or it did not.

Why it is possible now, and was not before.

Apple's App Store rules carve out real-time person-to-person services from in-app purchase. Payment happens on the web with Apple Pay through Stripe, and Apple's cut is zero.

That single rule is the whole business. It is the difference between keeping 80% of a video call and keeping 80% minus a 30% platform tax, which is not a business at all.

HOW IT ACTUALLY RUNS

The artist opens a payphone

  1. He sets it up himself in three steps. What he keeps (80%) is on the first screen, not in a terms page.
  2. He sets standing hours (Tuesday 7 to 9 PM) and a price menu: 5 minutes $60, 10 minutes $100, 20 minutes $180.
  3. He opens the app once that night and works a queue. Money lands per call, instantly, to his debit card.

Standing hours build the habit. One-off drops make the noise. Two separate features, deliberately.

The fan books a slot

  1. She gets a text or taps a link. She books and pays entirely on the web. No install required to buy.
  2. She installs the app only for the call itself, and her phone number is her account.
  3. Ten minutes, on a fair timer, and she keeps the recording. Clipping ten seconds of it is the cheapest marketing this product will ever have.

Neither side ever sees the other's number. The app is the switchboard: he cannot call her, she cannot call him.

THE MONEY

All-in pricing, split on completion.

The price a fan sees is the price she pays. Nothing is added at checkout. The charge is authorized at booking and split when the video call actually completes, so an artist is never clawed back and a fan is never charged for a video call that did not happen.

Managers are distribution, not gatekeepers. An artist runs his own account. If he works with a manager, he can route them a cut of his own 80% — and because managers carry rosters, one relationship can bring twenty artists who each set themselves up.

WHAT IT IS NOT

Not Cameo.

Cameo sells a recorded video made whenever the celebrity gets to it. This sells a live conversation at a stated time. Different product, different promise, and the scarcity is real.

Not a social network.

There is no feed, no comments, no DMs to moderate at scale. Following is free and exists for one reason: to get a text when a payphone opens.

Not a subscription.

Nobody is billed monthly for access they forget to use. You pay for a specific ten minutes, once, and you get exactly that.

WHERE IT STANDS TODAY
✓ Brand locked ✓ Domains registered ✓ 10 gating product decisions ruled ✓ Full journey designed, fan and artist ✓ Developer handoff written ✓ Manager pitch drafted Entity and payment accounts Talent agreement with counsel Build

The product decisions that usually stall a marketplace are already made and written down: how the timer is fair to both sides, who is refunded when someone does not show, what happens to a recording, how time is added mid-call and at what price, and when an artist gets paid. Nothing above is waiting on a design question.
